General Information

Founded in the 6th century BC by Greeks from Naples, Taormina was later occupied by the Romans. Today, the influences of both civilisations can be found in the ruins of the city’s Greco-Roman theatre. The beauty of Taormina has been documented by writers for centuries and the town is one of the most impressive locations in Sicily. It has all the qualities that attract visitors, incredible views, ancient ruins and an abundance of quaint shops and boutiques.
Many of its narrow cobbled streets are closed to traffic, making the main part of Taormina accessible only on foot. Stroll through this charming resort town perched on a cliff overlooking the Bay of Naxos. Your guide will introduce you to Piazza Vittorio Emanuele and the bustling main street of Corso Umberto, lined with ancient palazzi with charming architecture and flower-filled balconies.
Stop briefly in the inner courtyard of the medieval Palazzo Corvaja to take a look at a richly painted original Sicilian cart. Also enjoy the panoramic view of the bay and snow-capped Mount Etna in the distance. While strolling along Corso Umberto you can enjoy wonderful Sicilian specialities such as cannolo or arancino… or why not both, you won’t regret it!
