General Information

Overlooking the Bay of Naxos from its rocky promontory, Taormina has been a popular destination for centuries. You can visit this historical enclave ‘on your own’ by strolling through the medieval quarter and you can make your own way to the remains of the Greek Theatre built in the 3rd century B.C., from which you can see the breathtaking panorama of Mount Etna in the distance. You will stroll through the elegant Piazza Vittorio Emanuele and the lively main street of Corso Umberto, lined with boutiques and cafés. You will then reach Giardini Naxos in your private vehicle, where you will have the opportunity to board a boat for an unforgettable tour of the bay of Taormina. Your first stop will be the Grotta dell’Amore (Cave of Love), then you will proceed to the Bay of Taormina, which includes Capo Taormina and the Prickly Pear Rock. After sailing around Isola Bella, you will visit the Grotta Azzurra and the Bay of Mazzarò, where you can take a swim in summer. During a short 20-minute stop, refreshments will be served with fresh fruit and prosecco.

Isola Bella and boat tour
The island was donated by Ferdinand I of Bourbon, King of the Two Sicilies, to Pancrazio Ciprioti, mayor of Taormina, and was then bought in 1890 by the English noblewoman Florence Trevelyan for 14,000 lire. So much history therefore surrounds the island, which passed from hand to hand between various owners until 1954 when it was bought by the Bosurgi family of Messina, owners of an important citrus processing company. When the company went bankrupt, it was bought in 1990 by the Assessorato dei Beni Culturali and in 1998 it was declared a nature reserve
