General Information
A one-and-a-half-hour sightseeing tour takes you to Ragusa Ibla, a fascinating city that boasts two distinct parts. The first is Ragusa Alta, the new part of the Baroque city rebuilt after a devastating earthquake. It is located on a plateau and houses the landed estates of the nobility. The other part is Ragusa Ibla, the lower town, where the common people live. The highlights of the town are the Church of San Giorgio with its imposing Baroque façade and bell tower, the Ibleo Garden created in the 19th century, and the 14th-century Church of St James the Apostle, rebuilt in the 18th century. The imposing cathedral was erected between 1706 and 1760, and stands on a large terrace and loggia overlooking the central Piazza San Giovanni. Its bell tower makes the monumental façade strangely asymmetrical. After the walking tour, you will have 60 minutes free time to shop, have lunch, browse, or visit the Hyblaean Garden. In the afternoon you will travel to Modica, located on the southern slopes of the Hyblean Mountains. It has been described as a city born from rock, precisely because until a few decades ago its caves were inhabited. The walking tour through the Baroque part of the city also includes the Church of San Giorgio.
