General Information
An architectural gem awaits you in the village of Piazza Armerina, the spectacular Villa del Casale, hailed as a ‘supreme example of a luxury Roman villa’ by UNESCO. Observe its majestic beauty on a full-day tour. Villa del Casale must have dazzled everyone when it was unveiled in the early decades of the 4th century AD. Buried under centuries of mud and lava, the 11,482-hectare villa was discovered in the 19th century, carefully restored and finally opened to the public in 2012. Stroll through the courtyard, vestibule and 40 rooms adorned with ancient columns, remains of frescoes, statues and beautiful mosaics depicting wild animals, mythical heroes and geometric designs. During your tour, be sure to look for the famous ‘Bikini Girls’ mosaic featuring women in athletic competitions. A relaxing lunch will be waiting for you before you return.
