Spring is the right season to visit Sicily!
One of the best seasons to visit Sicily is spring. Here is a list of reasons why you should not hesitate to visit!
The advantages of mid-season
If spring is considered a transition season, take advantage of this cliché to avoid the summer crowds and enjoy nature and attractions without queues. It may be mid-season, but the weather in Sicily in spring is perfect: warm, breezy, sunny…
The days from March gradually become brighter and less cold, just perfect for these four excursions:
Mount Etna walk and tasting: Sicily’s greatest natural attraction is its highest mountain. For the ancient Greeks, Mount Etna was the realm of Vulcan, god of fire and the home of the one-eyed monster known as the Cyclops. At around 3350 metres, it is the highest active volcano in Europe. During the walk you will notice how the height of its summit changes with each eruption, as over the centuries some lava flows have reached the coast. Finally you will visit some wine cellars located in typical Etnean style buildings. The varieties cultivated are those emblematic of the region: Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Mantellato, Caricante and Cataratto. Enjoy your lunch with a spectacular view of Mount Etna. Syracuse and Ortigia: Arriving at the historic centre, you will see narrow streets lined with medieval and baroque buildings adorned with wrought-iron balconies overflowing with flowers. You will pass by the beautiful Arethusa Fountain and in the square you will be amazed by the panorama of the bay. Further on you will see the Cathedral, a graceful structure built in the 7th century on the foundations of the former Temple of Minerva. You can enjoy a stroll around Piazza Duomo and old Ortigia. Guided tour of Cefalù: You will discover one of Sicily’s most fascinating locations on the northern coast of Sicily, halfway between Palermo and Capo d’Orlando. You will start a guided walking tour through this beautiful medieval town with narrow streets and elaborate architecture.
The colours of the town are concentrated in a palette of colours from ocean blue to sunshine yellow that enhance the hues of the honey-coloured buildings. Small pieces of Sicilian history will come to life during your free time in the streets of the centre. During your visit you can wander among the souvenir shops, enjoy an ice cream in one of the characteristic cafés or have lunch in one of the seaside restaurants. Erice and the Temple of Segesta: A visit to Erice and the Temple of Segesta will introduce you to the rich history of Sicily, which includes 25 centuries of foreign domination by the Greeks, Romans, Arabs and Normans. The result is an impressive cultural heritage. Experience that legacy first-hand with this full-day excursion to explore the Norman fortified town of Erice and the ruins of the ancient city of Segesta. Events
Spring is the perfect season to get your fill of Sicily’s most beautiful festivals. Visiting Sicily in spring gives you the opportunity to take part in the many events scheduled, for example the Dance of the Devils in Palermo, to celebrate the arrival of the beautiful season amidst folklore and music. For any event or excursion you wish, Tour By Sicily can organise group transfers and help you with hotel and restaurant bookings. Another event to mark in your diary is the infiorata of Noto, on the third Sunday in May. Via Nicolaci is dressed in flower petals set up with great flair by infioratori artists capable of reproducing real paintings with them. You can then decide to book one of our excursions through the streets of Sicily’s Baroque capital. Click here for an overview of the tour.
